What to know

Several Kirkenes operators run king crab safaris, and the price depends on the season. Snow Resort Kirkenes runs its summer version by RIB from May to November, so it is operating now: NOK 2626 for adults and NOK 1313 for children aged 7 to 11, with a minimum age of 7. The three-hour trip includes hotel pickup, a flotation suit, hauling the crab pots in the fjord and a king crab meal, with two guests sharing one crab. From December the winter version by snowmobile and ice hole starts at NOK 3476. Barents Safari charges NOK 1950, or NOK 850 for under-12s, for its riverboat safari, but that runs only from 1 June to 15 September. Groups are small, so book ahead.
