No admission charge for anyone. Parking or transport may still cost.
Walking up Gaustatoppen, at 1,883 metres the highest peak in Telemark, is free, and the usual route from the Stavsro trailhead takes about two hours up. The alternative is Gaustabanen, a railway that runs inside the mountain, costing NOK 595 return or NOK 430 one way for adults and NOK 300 return or NOK 200 one way for children aged 5 to 15; under-5s ride free. Railway tickets are valid for a year from purchase. Gaustabanen runs daily from 10:00 to 17:00 until late October, with winter hours not yet published. Many visitors pair the summit with Rjukan's UNESCO-listed industrial heritage and the Vemork museum, scene of the wartime heavy-water sabotage, which charges its own admission.
