Pyramiden, the abandoned Soviet coal town at the head of Billefjorden, belongs to the Russian state company Trust Arktikugol. Since 2022 Visit Svalbard and most Longyearbyen operators have refused to sell landings there because of the war in Ukraine, and their boat trips only view the town from the water. The one company now offering landings is Arctic Travel Company Grumant, Arktikugol's tourism arm. Its 10-hour open RIB day trip costs NOK 3900, including a drysuit, a guided walk round the town and lunch at the Pyramiden hotel, with a minimum age of 12. A covered-boat version costs NOK 4300 and takes children from age 6. Trips run in summer, roughly mid-June to August, on dates given on request, so nothing is running now.

The planner warns of freezing in January, February, March, April, May, September, October, November, December. Outside those months it says nothing, which is the point — a warning that fires every day is one nobody reads.

The planner prices a whole day for your exact party, warns about closures and drive times, and totals the trip in your own currency.
