Climbing Norway's highest mountain is free from Spiterstulen, a longer route with no glacier crossing. The shorter route from Juvasshytta crosses the Styggebreen glacier and must be done with a guide. Juvasshytta's guided crossing currently costs NOK 510 for adults from 15 and NOK 440 for children, with a minimum age of 7. Tickets are binding and non-refundable, and must be booked by 18:00 the day before. The 2026 season ran from 31 May to 14 September, so tours are not running now. Driving up to Juvasshytta on Galdhopiggvegen costs NOK 150 per car in tolls, or NOK 200 for a minibus or campervan. Bring warm layers and wear long trousers for the glacier.

The planner warns of freezing in January, February, December. Outside those months it says nothing, which is the point — a warning that fires every day is one nobody reads.
Short days. Jotunheimen & the high mountains gives under 6 hours of daylight in December.
