What to know

IDR 150,000 a person a day for a foreign visitor, the same on a Sunday as on a Tuesday; Indonesians pay 10,000, or 15,000 on a holiday. The park's OWN tariff page is out of date and still shows 225,000 for a foreigner at weekends, and some Bukit Lawang guides still quote it - carry the extra cash but the regulation says 150,000. A licensed guide is compulsory: independent trekking is not allowed. Complete one-day treks including permits run about 1,100,000 a head, two-day around 2,100,000.

Minimum age 12.

When to go

The planner warns of wet in September, October, November. Outside those months it says nothing, which is the point — a warning that fires every day is one nobody reads.
