What to know

Margaret River is a wine region, not a gated attraction, so nothing is charged to arrive and the beaches, forest and surf breaks are free. What you actually spend goes on cellar doors, and most now charge to taste. Expect A$10 to A$25 a head for a standing tasting at the bar: Vasse Felix charges A$15, or A$25 to include its Icon wines, and Cullen Wines charges a similar fee that comes off any bottle you buy. Many cellar doors waive the fee on a purchase, so ask before you start. Seated and guided experiences cost much more, from about A$50 for Vasse Felix's Original Tour up to A$65 and beyond at Voyager Estate. Budget two or three cellar doors a day.
