The heritage railway climbs from Cairns through the Barron Gorge to Kuranda. A Heritage Class return costs A$87 for adults and A$43.50 for children aged 4 to 14, with infants under 4 free and a family of two adults and two children at A$217.50; one way is A$58 and A$29. Gold Class, which adds lounge seating, a gift pack and local refreshments, is A$201 return. Holders of an Australian Seniors Card or Pensioner Concession Card pay A$70 return and must show the card. Most visitors combine the train with the Skyrail cableway rather than riding both ways, and that package, one way on each, is A$145.50 adult and A$79.50 child. Fares hold until 31 March 2027 and then rise about 3.4 per cent. The train does not run on Christmas Day.
