The first capital, capital for 1,300 years, and still a working pilgrimage site. Enormous - 40 square kilometres - so take a tuk-tuk or bicycle. Note that the Sri Maha Bodhi and Ruwanwelisaya are free to enter and outside the ticketed zone.
