Rodne Fjord Cruise runs the classic Lysefjord sightseeing trip from Strandkaien in Stavanger. It is a round trip of three to three and a half hours on an electric catamaran, passing beneath Preikestolen and close to Hengjanefossen waterfall, with no time ashore. Adults pay NOK 890, children aged 4 to 15 pay NOK 445, under-4s go free, and there is no senior fare. The cruise runs all year and is sailing now: from October to December it leaves Thursday to Sunday at 11:00, rising to two or three departures a day from May to September. For a much cheaper trip, the Kolumbus public car ferry from Lauvvik to Lysebotn sails the length of the fjord all winter for NOK 83 per adult one way, booked at least two hours ahead.

The planner warns of freezing in January, February, December. Outside those months it says nothing, which is the point — a warning that fires every day is one nobody reads.
Short days. Stavanger & Lysefjord gives under 6 hours of daylight in December.
