Whitehaven Beach costs nothing to visit, as Queensland charges no entry fee for national parks, but it sits on Whitsunday Island and there is no road, so the boat is the real expense. Cruise Whitsundays runs half-day trips from Port of Airlie, Daydream Island or Hamilton Island from A$139 for adults, A$125 for seniors, A$55 for children aged 4 to 14 and A$379 for a family, giving up to two hours on the sand with infants under 4 free. Full-day options cost more: Ocean Rafting charges about A$249 for adults and A$168 for children, and Red Cat Adventures about A$250. Staying overnight needs a Queensland camping permit booked in advance at A$7.75 per person per night or A$31 per family, with under 5s free.

The planner warns of wet in January, February, March. Outside those months it says nothing, which is the point — a warning that fires every day is one nobody reads.
