What to know

There is no general admission to this UNESCO World Heritage building. The only way inside is the scheduled Dome Promenade guided tour, which runs about 60 minutes, departs from the Melbourne Museum foyer next door and includes the climb to the dome walkway for views over Carlton Gardens and the city. Adults pay A$29, children 16 and under A$15, under-threes free, and a family of four A$65. Seniors, students and concession holders pay A$23 with an Australian card, and Museums Victoria members A$13. Melbourne Museum general admission is ticketed separately. Tours are typically twice daily on weekdays and four times on weekends, and are suspended when the hall is hired for exams or events, so book ahead.
