Colombo's most-visited working temple, and part museum - the collection runs from Buddha statues to vintage cars and a great deal else besides. Modest dress, shoes off. Free to visit: the ticket people find online is for the Navam Perahera, the February procession, and not for walking in on an ordinary day. A donation box by the shrine, as everywhere.

The planner warns of wet in April, May, October, November. Outside those months it says nothing, which is the point — a warning that fires every day is one nobody reads.
