What to know

Whale watching off Andenes is unusually reliable, because a deep underwater canyon close to shore draws whales throughout the year. The long-established Whalesafari, now trading together with Whale2Sea, is the main operator. Its classic trip on the traditional boat M/S Reine runs from May to September, lasts three to four hours, takes all ages and costs from NOK 1690. Soup, hot drinks and entry to the Whale Exhibition are included, and if no whales are found you can sail again for free. Outside that season, including now, only RIB trips run, also from NOK 1690, lasting up to two and a half hours, with a minimum age of 8 and fewer departures in the dark months. Child and youth fares are shown only when booking. Arrive 45 minutes early to check in.
